We are here to help

Pet Horse & Farm were extremely sad to learn of the news regarding the death of 23 horses due to extreme animal cruelty in Bulla, Victoria.

We have donated feed for the 22 surviving horses and hope they find new homes where they are loved and cared for as all animals and pets should be.

If you would like help or advice on horses or any pets, their nutrition and their wellbeing, please don't hesitate to contact Pet Horse & Farm.

YOUR NEW KITTEN!

SHOPPING CHECK LIST:

- Cardboard or light weight plastic cat carrier (to transport the kitten home)

- Litter, litter tray and plastic scoop

- Elastic Collar and identity tag (tag should have owner’s name & address or phone number and not the cat’s – for the security of your cat)

-  Feeding dish and water bowl

- Brush and Comb (seek advice on the best type for your cat)

- Sleeping basket

- Scratching post

- A cat toy

ARRIVAL AT HOME: The kitten should not be taken home in your arms – it must have an escape proof transport box or basket. It may well become nervous when in strange surroundings and will try to escape as a result. When you arrive home, all doors and windows should be closed in the room where the cat will be living for most of the time. Then the litter tray and food and water bowls should be placed in their permanent places and the box opened and the kitten allowed out. Resist the temptation to pick it up until it has accustomed itself to its new home. In three stages and over the next few days, gradually open up other rooms and let the kitten explore other areas.

Over-excited children can stress a new pet so if children are present, be very conscious of their behaviour towards the kitten especially during this settling in period.

A DOG FOR YOUR HOME:

If you’re thinking of adding a dog to your family, or you have just welcomed a canine companion into your home, you may be wondering how best to take care of your new friend. Obviously there are many different breeds of dog to choose from and you are not always going to find one size fits all ideas and solutions. There are some suggestions that are similar for all breeds though.

Of course, one of the most important considerations is that you have all of the necessary items to make sure your dog is well cared for. These can include dog beds, pet shampoo, well-fitting dog collars, a control lead and a well manufactured kennel. Dogs are never going to be cheap to care for but don’t worry too much. Before you think you may have to take out a second mortgage to afford the costs, you should know that it’s possible to buy reasonably priced pet products in Australia, and still provide your canine housemate with the best care possible.
